English Language Skills for Sciences

English Language Skills for Humanities is a textbook designed for first-semester undergraduate students in the Humanities stream under the University of Calicut. It aims to help students build essential English language skills—Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing—through a practical, activity-based approach. The book is divided into five modules: four focused on core language skills and one on practicum. Each module includes engaging texts and exercises to improve understanding and communication abilities. Listening and Speaking sections help with effective verbal communication, while Reading and Writing modules support academic analysis and expression. The practicum module reinforces these skills through real-life tasks. With 30 hours of theory and 30 hours of practicum, this workbook-style course helps learners develop strong language foundations for academic and personal growth. Internal assessment carries 25 marks, and final evaluation is based on the 16 core units. This book supports a balanced and integrated approach to English learning for Humanities students.
